Sharifeh Mohammadi

Sharifeh Mohammadi is a woman human rights defender and campaigner against the death penalty in Rasht, Gilan province in Iran. She has been advocating for women’s rights and labour rights, which has included organizing events around international dates celebrating such rights. She was a member of a coordination council dedicated to form labour unions in Iran until 2016.

Human rights defenders and journalists in Iran are arrested, detained and prosecuted in unfair trials. HRDs continue to receive death threats and are subjected to harassment, arbitrary arrest and detention. They are refused bail or receive extreme bail conditions. HRDs are additionally subjected to systematic surveillance and their family members are targeted. Journalists have been subjected to flogging for criticising the government.
