Guleid Ahmed Jama est avocat et fondateur de l'Human Rights Center (HRC), une organisation qui surveille la situation des droits humains au Somaliland. Le HRC travaille sur cinq fronts différents, tels que le lobbying, le plaidoyer, la protection, le suivi et la documentation, dans le but de promouvoir le respect des droits humains au Somaliland.
Le gouvernement du Somaliland, bien qu'il jouissent d'une stabilité, limite la liberté de la presse et les autorités ciblent les défenseur-ses des droits humains dans la région à travers des actes d'intimidation et de harcèlement et des arrestations arbitraires à cause de leur travail.
