On 25 May 2016, the Anti-Corruption Commission of Bangladesh (ACC) questioned human rights defender Mr Adilur Rahman Khan over an allegation of involvement of the human rights organisation Odhikar in money laundering.
On 29 March 2016 human rights defender and transgender woman Ms Jlo Córdoba was shot and wounded in Tegucigalpa, which followed the attempted killing of LGBTI rights defender Mr Juan José Zambrano in Ceiba, on 24 March 2016.
On 3 March 2016, environmental rights defender Ms Berta Cáceres was murdered by as yet unknown assailants who broke into her home in the city of La Esperanza in the early hours of the morning. On 6 September 2016, human rights defender Ms Rocío Campos, member of the Magdalena Medio chapter of Movimiento de Víctimas de Crímenes de Estado – MOVICE (Movement of Victims of State Crimes), was attacked in the city of Barrancabermeja by two armed men on a motorcycle, in what appeared to be an assassination attempt.
On 18 October 2016, land rights defender and MUCA President Mr José Ángel Flores, and fellow human rights defender Mr Silmer George were killed in a drive by shooting in Tocoa, Colón.
