Woman human rights defender Parvin Mohammadi summoned for prison sentence
On 7 December 2021, Parvin Mohammadi was summoned to District 33 of Tehran Revolutionary and Public Court for the implementation of a one-year prison sentence.
On 28 April 2020, Parvin Mohammadi was released conditionally in the context of Covid-19.
Parvin Mohammadi has been vice-president of the Free Union Workers of Iran (FUWI) since 2010 and a member since 2008. She was one of the six main organizers of the 40,000 signatures campaign against minimum wage in Iran in 2011. Between 2011 and 2013, the labour rights defender was subject to judicial harassment from the intelligence service for her work for improved labour rights.
On 7 December 2021, Parvin Mohammadi was summoned to District 33 of Tehran Revolutionary and Public Court for the implementation of a one-year prison sentence.
The woman human right defender had been convicted in absentia to one-year imprisonment, and was imposed a travel ban due to the charge of “propaganda against the state” by Branch 1 of Karaj Revolutionary Court. She started serving this sentence on 7 December 2019 in Kachuei prison, and was conditionally released in the context of COVID-19 on 28 April 2020.
The labour rights defender has publicly stated that she will not comply with the court’s sentence without a fair trial, and that these charges are based on her continuous labour rights work, including her speech among the retired workers protests.
On 28 January 2019, Parvin Mohammadi and her fellow labour rights defender Jafar Azimzadeh were arrested but released on bail on 4 March after one month of arbitrary detention and interrogation in Evin Prison.
In April 2019 she was granted the prosecutor’s order of suspension. However, shortly after on 24 April Parvin Mohammadi was arrested, reportedly in anticipation of Labour Day. The labour rights defender was released on bail 16 days days later. Parvin Mohammadi was eventually charged with “assembly and collusion against national security” by Branch 1 of Karaj Revolutionary Court and began serving her one year sentence on 7 December 2019 in Kachuei prison.
On 28 April 2020, Parvin Mohammadi was released conditionally in the context of Covid-19.
