On 10 October 2024, the Leninskiy District Court in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, ruled to sentence woman human rights defender and journalist Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy and human rights defender and akyn Azamat Ishembekov to six and five years of prison time respectively. The Court found the human rights defenders guilty of “calls for mass civil unrest,” criminal offences under Part 2 of Article 41 and Part 3 of Article 278 of Kyrgyzstan’s Criminal Code.

On 22 November 2021, officials of National Investigation Agency (NIA), India’s federal counter-terrorism agency, raided human rights defender Khurram Parvez’s home and office in Srinagar, seized several electronic devices and documents, and arrested him on charges of terrorism funding, being a member of a terrorist organization, criminal conspiracy, and waging war against the state under the draconian Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

On 15 February 2024 the Russian occupational law enforcement authorities from the Center for Combating Extremism in Simferopol, Crimea, drew up an administrative report against Crimean human rights defender and lawyer Emil Kurbedinov for so-called “abuse of freedom of mass information,” a crime, envisioned by Part 9, Article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

Human rights defender Mohamed Ibrahim continues to suffer from arbitrary measures in prison since March 2020, which have had severe impact on his mental and physical well-being and led him recently to attempt to commit suicide in Tora Maximum-Security Prison 2. He has been detained in this prison since August 2020.
On 5 July 2022, human rights defender and Secretary General of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Robson Chere, was arrested at the Harare Central Police Station. The human rights defender has been arbitrarily charged with the murder of Roy Issa, a youth activist and member of ARTUZ who died in an accident in 2016.
