Sofia Larriera Santurio - Business and Human Rights Advocacy Officer
Sofia Larriera Santurio is the Business and Human Rights Advocacy Officer at Front Line Defenders where she supports human rights defenders at risk through strategically coordinating and developing the organisation’s work on business and human rights (BHR). This includes advocacy work on individual cases of HRDs at risk related to corporate actors, as well as advocacy for legislative and policy change related to BHR and the protection of defenders.
Before joining FLD, Sofia worked at the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University (Netherlands) as a legal clinician. There, she was involved in teaching activities and supervision of research projects focusing on BHR, international criminal law and fair trials rights. In addition, Sofia also worked as a researcher and legal consultant for a NGO based in Timor-Leste.
Prior to moving to the Netherlands, Sofia worked as a criminal lawyer in Brazil, focusing on financial crimes. Parallel to that, she co-founded a feminist civil society organisation where the main activity she carried out was the pro bono legal advice to victims of gender-based violence. She holds an LLM in Public International Law and a bachelor in law.
