Salman Khairallah
Salman Khairallah Salman Al-Mansoori is an environmental human rights defender, member of the Iraqi Social Forum, and works on water pollution issues in in Iraq. He also contributes to the campaign ‘Protect Tigris’ which works on minimizing the pollution in the Tigris river. Salman Al-Mansoori regularly participates in the anti-corruption demonstrations which started in early October 2019.
Human rights defenders in Iraq have been subjected to attack, harassment, arbitrary arrest and detention without trial. Despite the fact that Iraq became a party to the Convention Against Torture in July 2011, torture and ill-treatment in camps and detention centres remains widespread, including against imprisoned human rights defenders and democracy activists.
