Marvin Wilcox is a human rights defender and the leader of the producers of Barú affected by the Contract-Law 36-17, a member of the Comité en Defensa de la Tierra de Barú (Barú Land Defense Committee), the AEN and the “Unidos por el Agro”. The Barú Land Defense Committee is a group of peasants and producers organised for the defense of their lands from the concessions to multinational companies and national subsidiaries.
Human rights defenders and journalists have been subject to death threats, smear campaigns, police brutality and had their right to freedom of peaceful assembly restricted.
