Luis Armando Fuentes
Luis Armando Fuentes is an indigenous human rights defender and member of the Commission in Defence of the Land and the Territory of the East Istmo Zone (Comisión en Defensa de la Tierra y el Territorio de la Zona Oriente del Istmo) and the Comité Regional Istmo de Sol Rojo (Red Sun Itsmo Regional Committee). He worked on local human rights issues related to community development, accountability of local and national authorities regarding corruption, and as a promoter of the right to self-determination in municipalities in Istmo de Tehuantepec.
Human rights defenders (HRDs) and journalists in Mexico are subject to intimidation, legal harassment, arbitrary detention, death threats, acts of physical aggression, enforced disappearances and killings as a result of their activities in defence of human rights and the exercise of freedom of expression and journalism.
