Jules Dumas Nguebou
Jules Dumas Nguebou is a human rights defender and the director of Actions Solidaires de Soutien aux Organisations et d’Appui aux Libertés (Solidarity Actions in Support of Organizations and in Support of Freedoms - ASSOAL), an organization that fights against the eviction and land grabbing. ASSOAL works for better municipal governance and better access to basic social services while encouraging citizens of deprived neighbourhoods to promote their rights and participate in public policies to improve their living conditions.
In Cameroon, human rights defenders and journalists critical of the government are particularly targeted and often face harassment. Security forces have tortured, beaten, harassed, and abused citizens, journalists, detainees and human rights defenders.
