Hélène Kokolou Zogbelemou Testimony
As a victim of genital mutilation myself, I have been engaged in the fight against GBV since 2009.
I am a victim of female genital mutilation (FGM) and since 2009 I have been fighting against it.
Hélène Zogbelemou is the President of the NGO Humanitaire pour la Protection de la Femme et de l’Enfant – HPFE (Humanitarian for the Protection of Women and Children). The organisation was established in 2010, following several findings of violations of rights of women and children.
The aim of the organisation is to promote and defend the rights of women and children against all forms of violence in Forested Guinea, in the south-eastern region, particularly rape, domestic violence and female genital mutilation (FGM). HPFE contributes to publicise and raise awareness of the main rights guaranteed to women by the Guinean and international law through radio broadcasts, educational talks, debates, lectures, video screening and advocacy. Its motto is: Egality - Justice and Peace. Its vision: the cause of women is the purpose of HPFE. EVERY woman dreams of a world in which every woman enjoys equal opportunities, can develop fully and have the opportunity to take a grip on her own destiny. Every woman should be able to thrive in an environment in which communities and governments work together for their protection and participation in society.
