Fred Mwawula

Fred Mwawula is a land rights defender from Kisalanda village, located in the Kiryandongo district of Uganda. He mobilises local communities to defend their land rights and oppose the forced evictions perpetrated by the private companies Agilis Partners, Great Season Company Limited and Kiryandongo Sugar Limited, which have been implementing farming projects in the area.
The Ugandan government continues to limit freedom of expression and association with human rights defenders being subjected to threats, intimidation and judicial harassment due to their legitimate human rights work.
