Erick Martinez
Erick works to promote equality and the institutional recognition of LGBTI people in Honduras. Erick was one of the founders of Movimiento de Diversidad en Resistencia (Diversity Resistance Movement, MDR), which was founded in 2010 as an initiative to peacefully promote LGBTI rights through mobilization and advocacy. As part of the Centro de Investigación y Promoción de los Derechos Humanos (Centre for the Investigation and Promotion of Human Rights, CIPRODEH), Erick has implemented projects to strengthen institutional recognition of LGBTI people in Honduras through research on the legal human rights obligations of the Republic of Honduras, monitoring and reporting rights violations and capacity building of the population for advocacy, with a focus on youth.
LGBTI defenders in Honduras are doubly discriminated against. They are discriminated firstly because they are human rights defenders and secondly because they defend LGBTI rights.
