Daniel Urrutia Laubreaux

Daniel Urrutia Laubreaux is a Supervisory judge and human rights defender who has ruled in cases against Chilean State officials, Carabineros and public administration personnel. As a Supervisory judge, his work is based on safeguarding the rights of individuals during criminal proceedings. Since he began his career as a judge, he has handed down rulings with a clear focus on the defence of human rights, such as the right to vote of persons in pretrial detention, the rights of adolescents in pretrial detention and the right to freedom of assembly and association, among others.

Le Chili a fait d'importants progrès concernant le respect et la protection des droits humains depuis la fin de la dictature de Pinochet, et c'est l'un des pays d'Amérique du Sud qui ont réussi à traduire en justice les coupables des atrocités perpétrées pendant la dictature. Malgré ces avancées, les DDH sont toujours la cible d'acharnement policier ; des manifestations ont été violemment réprimées plusieurs fois.
