Claudia Favaro is an architect and defender of the right to adequate housing. Over the past years, she has assisted social movements in securing ownership of land plots and has helped them achieve better living standards by building and improvement techniques that are tailored to their needs. Claudia Favaro has been judicially condemned for protesting on social media against police brutality she witnessed during evictions in the city of Porto Alegre.
The challenges and threats faced by human rights defenders in Brazil remain very high, particularly for those working on issues of land, environment, indigenous peoples, LGBTI rights, corruption and impunity.
