Aida Baijumanova’s activities in human rights began in 2004, when she became a coordinator of election related projects in the human rights movement “Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan”. Until 2006, her work had been largely associated with the advocacy of citizens’ electoral rights, and since 2007 she has been involved in the protection of the rights of vulnerable groups of citizens.
Human rights defenders (HRDs) in Kyrgyzstan continue to be subjected to harassment, and face restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly and association.
