Abdifatah Hassan Ali is a human rights defender, blogger and founder of Digital Shelter, a local initiative promoting digital safety, digital rights/inclusion and internet freedom in Somalia. Throughout his career, Abdifatah has focused his activism on advocating for the voiceless community in his country. He has worked extensively on the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs), minority groups and others who have been marginalized and affected by conflict. Abdifatah also is an active social media campaigner and blogger addressing key human rights issues in Somalia. He is currently focusing on defending human rights in the digital age.

Somalia remains a highly insecure environment for human rights defenders (HRDs), journalists and humanitarian workers, in spite of the optimism generated by advances in the fight against Al Shabaab, an Islamist armed group that has been fighting government forces for years.
