Union of Ejidos in Defense of the Mayan Territory
It is an organization that emerged in March 2021 as a result of a series of complaints from ejidos and communities that are in the line of the construction of the mega project called "The Mayan Train" in the state of Campeche. The Union of Ejidos in Defense of the Mayan Territory has been the base of strength for the different local authorities in search of justice over their territory and in favor of the national authorities acting on the demands of the communities.
Human rights defenders (HRDs) and journalists in Mexico are subject to intimidation, legal harassment, arbitrary detention, death threats, acts of physical aggression, enforced disappearances and killings as a result of their activities in defence of human rights and the exercise of freedom of expression and journalism.
