Jeepal Krishak Shramik Sangha

(JKSS)

Jeepal Krishak Shramik Sangha (JKSS) is a farmers' rights organization advocating for the rights of peasant and indigenous communities in Assam. Organization members Soneshwar Narah and Praban Doley work towards social justice and to hold government authorities, including police and local government, accountable for violations and deprivations against the local indigenous community. In the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has disproportionately affected poor and marginalized communities, they have undertaken critical human rights work to ensure local peasant and indigenous peoples have access to the basic essentials necessary to preserve life.

Human rights defenders in India face a diverse range of attacks and harassment from state and non-state actors alike, including killing, physical assault, arbitrary detention, threats and judicial harassment.
