On 7 February, Front Line Defenders protested at the Sudanese embassy to Ireland, to mark two months since Dr. Mudawi Ibrahim Adam was arbitrarily detained by Sudanese authorities.
Dr Mudawi Ibrahim Adam is an internationally respected human rights defender who has, for many years, condemned human rights abuses by all sides involved in the ongoing conflict and has been a consistent advocate for peace. Dr. Mudawi was arrested at the University of Khartoum, where he is a professor of Mechanical Engineering, on 7 December 2016 along with his longtime driver, Adam El Sheikh Mukhtar. On 22 January, Dr Mudawi Ibrahim Adam started a hunger strike in protest of his arbitrary detention. Reports describe how Mudawi Ibrahim Adam has been badly beaten and placed in chains by members of the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS). It seems this was an attempt to force him to end his hunger strike. For further information, click here.
