On 11 September 2020, a court in Delhi granted bail to human rights defender Khalif Saifi, in case 44/2020, which includes charges under Sections 147 (rioting), 186 (obstructing public servant from discharging duty), 149 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting, with deadly weapon), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from doing duty) and 307 (attempt to murder), and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Khalid Saifi is a human rights defender and social activist associated with United Against Hate, a campaign that was started in July 2017 in response to the series of lynchings that had taken place in India around that time.
