Thirteen women HRDs (Ms Kong Chantha, Ms Tol Sreypov, Ms Tep Vanny, Ms Pov Sophea, Ms Suong Samai, Ms Pan Chhunret, Ms Heng Nom, Ms Chan Navy, Ms Po Davy, Ms Nguon Kimleang, Ms Song Sreyleap, Ms Chheng Leap and Ms Nget Kun) have been active in leading protests against the eviction of Boeung Kak Lake villagers. They were convicted by Phnom Penh Municipal Court on charges of inciting others to take land illegally under Article 504 of the Penal Code and obtaining land illegally under Articles 34 and 259 of the Land Law Act, after being detained without charge for a period of 48 hours.

On 18 November 2016, human rights defenders Ms Maria Chin Abdullah and Mr Mandeep Singh were arrested in Petaling Jaya city after their office was raided. On 20 November 2016, Mandeep Singh was released on bail, while Maria Chin Abdullah remains in detention under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act.
On 1 October 2015, the human rights organisation Asociación para una Ciudadanía Participativa - ACI Participa publicly denounced the hacking of their institutional email address, as well as the deletion of files and contacts, by unknown persons.
On 7 May 2013, journalists and human rights defenders Mr Dumisani Muleya and Mr Owen Gagare, respectively editor and chief reporter of the weekly newspaper Zimbabwe Independent, were arrested in Harare for publishing an article two weeks earlier alleging meetings took place between Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and top military officials. They were released on the same day and charged with contravening the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
On 4 September 2015, human rights lawyer Mr Mahfooz Saeed was attacked by two unidentified men in Malé. During the attack, he sustained stab wounds on one side of his head.
The attack occurred one week after a public speech he made in which he criticised the current government.
On 7 February 2013, human rights defender Mr Nataniel Hernández Núñez was arrested and detained for seven hours. Since 2010, he has been subjected to a continued and systematic campaign of judicial harassment, of which the recent arrest is the latest act.
