Front Line is deeply concerned following reports received regarding death threats that have been recently made against human rights defender Fernando Ruiz Canales, the President of the non-governmental Consejo para la Ley y los Derechos Humanos – CLDH (Law and Human Rights Council). Fernando Ruiz Canales works with families that have been victims of kidnappings allegedly committed by members of the Mexican Armed Forces. Brazil: Andre Fernandes targeted with death and forced into exile

Andre Fernandes is a social activist in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Because of his work he has been targeted with death threats, which forced him into “exile” in southern Brazil. He came back to Rio de Janeiro at the end of 2006. Since his return he has again received death threats and has had to leave Rio de Janeiro for his own safety.  Read More

Guatemala: Forensic anthropologist Fredy Peccerelli targetted for investigating killings

“Your days are running out f******g REVOLUTIONARY. Today we have your sister under surveillance. She is wearing black trousers and a white shirt. It is going to be easier than we thought”. This is typical of the threats received by Fredy Peccerelli Director of FAFG the Guatemalan Forensic Anthropology Foundation which carries out exhumations of mass graves to return the victims to their families and to find evidence which will bring the perpetrators to justice.  Read More

Philippines: Human rights defenders from KARAPATAN-Cebu receive death threats and allegations of kidnapping against Vimarie

Front Line is deeply concerned following reports that human rights defenders, Dennis Abarrientos, Vimarie Arcilla, Jean Suarez and Concordia Oyao have received threatening text messages to their mobile phones and the 79th Infantry Battalion-Philippine Army (IB-PA) have made allegations of kidnapping against Vimarie Arcilla. Dennis Abarrientos is the Secretary-General of Karapatan-Cebu, Vimarie Arcilla is the Public Information Officer, Jean Suarez is Research and Documentation Officer and Concordia Oyao is Direct Services Officer. Front Line is deeply concerned following reports of death threats received via SMS text message by José Suasnavar over a three-day period beginning 27 July 2008. José Suasnavar is the Deputy Director of the Fundación de Antropología Forense de Guatemala (Foundation of Forensic Anthropology in Guatemala – FAFG), a non-governmental organisation dedicated to investigating human rights violations through the application of forensic and social sciences, with a view to strengthening the respect and the protection of human rights. Colombia: Death threats against NGOs from the Espacio de Trabajadores y Trabajadoras de Derechos Humanos

Front Line is deeply concerned following reports that human rights defender Kelly Muñez Delgado has received death threats and is reportedly under constant surveillance. Kelly Muñez Delgado is Secretary General of the KARAPATAN Alliance for the Advancement of People's Rights in the Southern Mindanao Region of the Philippines.
