Kyrgyzstan – UPDATE: Appeal of human rights defender Azimjan Askarov adjourned until 3 November posted on: 2010/10/27

On 25 October human rights defender Azimjan Askarov appeared before Tashkumyr city court, southern Kyrgyzstan to appeal a previously imposed sentence of life imprisonment. The hearing began at 10.30 a.m. and continued until 5 p.m. The next hearing is scheduled for 3 November.

The trial of Bahraini human rights defender Mohamed Abdul Nabi Al-Maskati for “running an unlicenced association” has been adjourned until 15 January 2009. Mohamed Abdul Nabi Al-Maskati is the founder of the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR), which organises training workshops, monitors and documents human rights violations and participates in forming a regional network for young human rights activists in eight Arab countries.
