100% of your donation to The Protection Fund for Human Rights Defenders at Risk will directly support human rights defenders who routinely face death threats, illegal prosecution, imprisonment, violence, and defamation as a result of their non-violent human rights work on behalf of others.

The Protection Fund for Human Rights Defenders at Risk is designed to support Front Line's established Small Grants Program and any other practical assistance provided by Front Line in aid of human rights defenders at risk.

Front Line provides grants of up to €6,000 for the specific purpose of strengthening the protection of human rights defenders at risk. In emergency cases we can approve and wire a grant in a matter of hours. Grants can pay for emergency relocation, medical or legal costs, communications equipment, office or home security.

In 2008 Front Line made 152 grants totaling €301,253 to individual human rights defenders and organizations in 42 countries throughout the world. Unfortunately threats against human rights defenders are increasing and the need to provide support is growing. Our 2009 Small Grants budget is €300,000. We need your help to continue to support at-risk human rights defenders through this crucial progamme.
