Israel: Court finds Israel not at fault for the killing of human rights defender Rachel Corrie
Rachel CorrieFront Line Defenders today expressed regret that the latest attempt to obtain justice and accountability for the killing of human rights defender Rachel Corrie has not been successful.
Rachel Corrie was killed on 16th March 2003 as she protested peacefully in front of an Israeli military bulldozer which was engaged in demolishing Palestinian homes.
Rachel Corrie's family had been pursuing a civil action because of the failure of the Israeli authorities to conduct a proper investigation into her death.
The Corrie family lawyer, Attorney Hussein Abu Hussein, stated, "this verdict speaks to the systemic failure to hold the Israeli military accountable for continuing violations of basic human rights. "
Front Line Defenders published together with the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) A Report on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders in Palestine in 2005 which included a section on the killing of Rachel Corrie and the lack of accountability for her killing and the killing of other human rights defenders.
The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) also issued a statement condemning today's verdict
