Further Information

Posted 10 September 2008 Professor emphasised the failure of the international community to put human rights and in particular the protection of human rights defenders at the heart of their political strategy. "Despite the high level of coverage of the situation in Iraq the human rights dimension is lost" he said. Ms. Hishmat spoke of the assassination of her husband, journalist Ra'id Quais Fadhel, and the fact that it is only when you read these individual testimonies that you realise the scale of the challenges facing the people of Iraq. "Despite the evidence of progress the people of Iraq still face many dangers" she said.
